What Would You Like to Write About?

250x250Diabetes Blog Week is just four weeks away, as you can see from the button created by the fabulous Mike Lawson!!  (Thank you, Mike!)  I’m beyond excited that we are doing this for a sixth time.  And since Diabetes Blog Week is for the community, I’d love to gather blog topic suggestions from all of you.  (And yes, it’s also getting harder and harder to think of new topics every year, so I could really use the help!!)

So tell me, what do you think would make a great Diabetes Blog Week topic?  Please try to remember it should be something that would apply to anyone in the community - people with any type of diabetes and their care-givers.  (For example, a topic about insulin might not work because not everyone needs to take insulin.)

Feel free to leave your ideas in the comments below, or email them to me at DBlogWeek@bittersweetdiabetes.com.  If your topic idea is used, I’ll be sure to give you credit.  Thanks for helping to make Diabetes Blog Week the best it can be!

  1. If you could personify your diabetes or that of your loved one, what would it be like? What would it look like, what would it say, what kind of personality would it have? Use your imagination and feel free to use images, drawings, words, music, etc. to describe it.

  2. In the UK, we had a diabetes blog theme of "I can..." This was wonderfully empowering. I felt it allowed us to think about the positive sides of our life: sometimes we can get bogged down with all the negatives of having diabetes.
So, although it has been done before, I would encourage you to consider something along this route.

  3. Describe a memorable day of how (you think or know) others see your diabetes/ were closely involved with it! Did they see you test/ inject in public/talk to you/give a dirty look? Did you sit in bed drinking juice with your SO by your side today? Did you have a glucagon conversation with a coworker? Did you feel empowered by a particular advocacy moment? Which interactions stand out the most and why? (I think this should be limited to outside the docs office interactions with regular (type 0) humans in the real world :)

  4. Pros AND cons to a diabetes diagnosis. Did you lose anything, did you gain anything?

  5. Many of us share lots of aspects of our diabetes lives online for the world to see. What are some of the aspects of diabetes that you choose to keep private from the internet? from your family and friends? Why?

(This is not an attempt to get you out of your comfort zone. There is no need to elaborate or tell personal stories related to these aspects. Simply let us know what kinds of stories we will never hear you tell, and why you won't tell them)

  6. If you have been blogging for a while, what is your favorite sentence and/or blogpost that you hsve ever written? Is it diabetes related or just life related? If you are a new blogger (or a longterm blogger), what motivated you to start sharing your story by writing a blog?

  7. Another idea. Do you think that blogs are still a relevant way to tell our diabetes stories? Why or why not? How about five years from now? What other social media do you participate in to connect with the diabetes community?

  8. Everybody Adam Brown and write a post documenting what they eat in a day! Add links to recommended recipes/shops/whatevers. Make it an ideal day or a come-as-you-are day. I'm not sure which would be more exciting----the come as you are maybe would be more fun, but the "ideal day" might be more useful...please please please.

  9. I have another, similar idea that would be harder to do and MUCH LESS popular. But. Would anyone want to try to do a version of that controversial Gwyneth Paltrow food stamps challenge (she famously spent most of her food stamps on limes) but instead of food stamps, the budget would be carbs? Like: what would you eat if you had only 100g CHO to spend in a day? Or 60g CHO. Or 10g CHO.
