Three years ago . . .

Three years ago, I was the only person I knew with Type 1 diabetes.

Three years ago, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get my A1C into the range my endo and I were shooting for.

Three years ago, I treated lows with chocolate because nobody ever told me that it wasn’t a good idea because the fat in it slowed the absorption down too much.

Three years ago, I had no idea about deducting half of the fiber grams when carb counting.

Three years ago, I had just started pumping and I didn’t know any of the great tips and tricks.

Three years ago, I didn’t have a CGM.

Three years ago, I never dreamed of all of the wonderful friends I would make in the DOC.

But thank goodness, three years ago I started this blog.

I never dreamed how drastically my diabetes life would improve, just from three years of blogging.  I never dreamed how great my non-d life would improve from three years of blogging as well.  I never could have imagined the wonderful friends I would make and the amazing opportunities that would come my way.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to read my ramblings.  Thank you for all of the kind comments left.  Thank you for the wonderful community I am so proud to be a part of!!

  6. Isn't it so amazing that there's so much you would never know about diabetes if it wasn't for the blogs -- even when you've had diabetes a long time -- these blogs make d so much easier to figure out-- we can both learn and be entertained at the same time. I guess that's key. I could never spend as much time with a d book as I can on the blogs. Happy 3rd!

  17. I just started blogging three months ago. I've been type 2 for over 10 years but blogging has really opened my eyes to what I should be doing and how I can improve my quality of life. Your 3 year post was very motivating.

  20. Three years ago, I had been witness to the sorrows and tragedies brought about by diabetes. A teenage friend and my grandma acquired diabetes in the past years. At times, seeing them suffer breaks my heart. But when I read personal stories about diabetes such as this, I get inspired and it uplifts my spirit. More power to you and keep inspiring people!

  21. Hi Karen. May you have more years to blog! I don't have the condition but my dad has, and awareness about diabetes is something that I've promised him to be part of my life. Thanks for a blog like yours.

  22. I have learned more from the DOC than I have ever learned from any endo or CDE. I cannot even begin to say how valuable blogs like yours have been. I started my own recently as a way to share information and vent (www.mybustedpancreas.com), and I hope that the DOC continues to grow!

  23. Hi My name is Alecia Johnson
It is almost to my 3 yr mark of being diabetic.

I started out being diagnosed with type 2 and last year August I was offically insulin dependent, and I was told that I may be Type 1 now. it has almost been a year since then and I am having trouble with my sugars again... along with other medical problems as a result of the high sugars... The whole situation is depressing.

I Only just started to read your blog but it is kind of comforting that i am not the only one that had so much trouble with regulating blood sugars for so long.

  24. HAPPY BLOGAVERSARY!
3 years ago I didn't have a friend named Karen who understood my diabetes language without ever having to utter the D word. Now I do and my world is a much brighter & more fantastical place for having you in it!
