“True love is eternal, infinite, and always like itself.” ~Honore de BalzacDiabetes is eternal. Diabetes is infinite. And I suppose Diabetes is always like itself . . . because it sure is different from anything else.
In any case, my “true love” and I are celebrating our 31st anniversary one day this month - although in all honestly, I’ve been saying we’ve been together for 31 years since about September or so. Maybe that’s because it just seems like diabetes has been with me for-freaking-ever!! In any case, we may have officially passed our big day last week. Or maybe it is next week. Or possibly yesterday or tomorrow. As I’ve said before, the unfortunate fact is that I don’t know exactly when my Diaversary is, but we know I was diagnosed in 1979 and we think it was in December. I usually pick December 15th to “celebrate” because it is smack in the middle of the month. This year I suppose I need to push the party back a bit because Pete has an important meeting today and I’d hate to leave my REAL true love out of the celebration.
So tell me, what is a suitable 31st Diaversary gift for my so-called true love to get me? Perhaps good health after 31 years with my life partner is the best gift I could have asked for!
HAPPY DIAVERSARY ! I say go out and celebrate all that wonderful & fantasticalness that is you! I say, head out to CRUMBS and have your "life partner/true love" get you a cupcake to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteAWWW...I think your life partner should give you a day of smooth sailing numbers after eating the said cupcake mentioned by K2!
ReplyDeleteHappy 31st! Impressive for sure!
31 healthy years is a wonderful achievement!
ReplyDeleteAnd since you're not sure of the day, just pick several this month to celebrate!
31 years - wow! Congrats my friend. I think an appropriate gift is whatever is smack dab at the top of your wish list!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is quite an accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteI know it's probably not what you want to hear, but saying you have had it for 31 years gives us parents with CWD's hope. Hope that it's all gunna work out...or be ok. We tell ourselves that every day, but having people like you as proof makes us feel more at ease. Well, it makes ME feel more at ease.
ReplyDeleteRenata - Not what I want to hear?? Nope, it's exactly what I want to hear!!!! Knowing I can help you feel more at ease about your children and their future makes me so very happy that I have this little blog. :) Hugs to you!
ReplyDelete31 Flavors -- a scoop of each :)
ReplyDeleteI guess a diaversary is cause for celebrating if you haven't suffered horrible complications after this long, but we're still in the same holding pattern with things never really improving, never being made significantly easier to manage, never getting any cheaper. I always ask myself if I really need a reminder that the "cure will be here in another 5 years" should even be discussed when so few doctors actually study disease eradication, but focus instead on disease management. We need to change this paradigm! Still, I'm glad if you can celebrate without complications, that is indeed worthy of a treat in my book!
ReplyDelete31 years - Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Diaversary! You are wonderful!
Please celebrate - I agree with the Crumbs idea!!!!
31 years - WOW! Happy Diaversay!! You are a diabetes rock star! I agree with Renata - you are such an inspiration! I love your great attitude, your witty posts and well - - just everything about you!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for giving this D-Mama so much hope!
Oh yea - CRUMBS --- oh yea!!
Happy Diaversary! Congrats on such a long and lovely relationship with your life partner :)
ReplyDeleteNo, but seriously, congrats on being on this journey so long with no complications! It gives hope to adults like me too.
Wow! What a blessing...31 years! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYour true love, unfortunately can't get you anything a millionth of how much you've given it.... but you get ourself something to reward how great you've done (and continue to do). And- I guess if we want to be really positive, you can consider it 'likely' having given you numerous traits. For me those include: attention to detail, pre-planning skills, fine-tuned problem solving ability, responsibility in any environment, preparedness that would give any boy scout a run for his money...
